4. What has
the CTA done for public education?
In the past ten years
CTA has been responsible for two significant changes in California's public
education. Thousands of CTA members worked hard to qualify and pass a school
fund inititive. Success! Prop 98 guarantees education the first 40% of state
revenues. The second CTA success was the state wide media campaign to reduce
class size. The pay-off is class size reduction in grades K-3. CTA lobbyists
work to protect education funding and teachers' rights. CTA recently won
significant increases in teachers' retirements.
